OK I have a really nice 97 that is sound&reliable-very pleased with it! Heres the thing: the local state highway department Has(had) an 04 that was rolled in the last snow storm we had here. The unit only has 28K on it! The unit is going to be made availiable after the insurance company pays the state the assessed value. While almost all the body panels are bad(and I don't need body parts anyway) the complete frame and driveline seem too good to pass up,it even has the console shift and same color interior as mine, and so...
I mentioned this to a fellow wrench at work...and he said:Put your body on that frame!
Well,I have done an off-frame resto on my 66 C1404 so I am no complete stranger to a job of this magnitude, but come on,I don't even know if I could do this in my shop at work! I will need two complete set-ups( separate cars ) and what? A weeks time?
Also:Wiring harness issues? 97 to 04 are DIFFERENT! ABS Issues? Steering column issues?
HMMMM... Any one done this? At the very least I am going to pick this unit up for the driveline and the suspension components(and gas tank and seats and bumpers and....well you get the idea)Personally I think its too much work:What say YOU!
Thanks! Step66

Buy it & use what you need when you need it. Your right way to much work. Just use it as a parts car. Of Course the price being cheap enough.

You could essentially change your body to its frame... I think you could do it

Yeah.. There is no way I want to get in to that rats nest! But I will tell you this now-it will be a hulk of metal when it leaves my yard-every part is comin' off!
I know of too many folks that need parts! Just to put in stock!
