Default Cleaning that pesky rust off

I have an ls auto 4wd ls 4dr 2000 blazer, we got it used alongtime ago, but since we live in newenglad the trucks undersids is not dry(espiccaly during the winter season) so this summer i plan to get 4 6ton jacks lift the truck up as high as the jacks wll go, and wheel my friends compressor outside(or the eltric assortmen of grinders we have) and grind all the rust down back to the orgioanl steal, then we plan to paint it over with special paint(what kind of paint should i use((i want i black. please))?) has anyone ever done this? do you think its a good idea.

about a year ago we had extreme flooding, like 3 foot in some major road areas, since i am the only one at the house at the time of the flooding, i had to go out and get some stuff for the sis and niece, i had to go trhough these deep flooded roads, and there is just alot of rust on the bottom of the truck.

When you clean up the underside of the truck go out and get some por 15 and apply that before you paint it black it will protect the metal forever dang near!! I used some on my ship when I was in the navy and the area's I used it on never rusted after 3 years of application!!

3M Rubberized Underbody Coating. Availible in spray can form from Autozone or Advance. Put on a nice thick coat. I used 2 cans for both frame rails, leafs, leaf mounts, and wheel wells. runs about $7 a can down here, and theres also Duracoat brand for like $5. It bubbles up real good, fills in all the gaps, then as it dries over 24 hrs or so it flattens out and seals. I think its great stuff.

Also 3M makes much fancier glass-globule underbody coating that is probably more like what the factory uses...but I'm not sure about that. I havn't had any issues with my frame since a year and a half ago when I put it on!

Isn't POR-15 an absolute PITA to work with? Not really what I woulda thought of for the underside of a car. That seems like a warehouse wall application, something without crevices.

Wal-Mart has the rubberized spray as well and it runs less than $4.00 a can. Did the bed of my old Dodge last summer and it still looks good.
