Coolant leak with 2005 Chevy TrailBlazer 4WD 4.2L V6
Hello,
I apologize if this is the wrong section to post in. I'm not sure how to tell if this 2005 Chevy TrailBlazer is a 2nd Gen S-series or not. Anyway, my sister gave me this vehicle. The body is in decent shape but she didn't really take good care of it. The back passenger door latch needs replacing. The back driver side door lock isn't working and there's no way to currently open the door. The back hatch (the metal one and the glass window) don't open, so I believe those hatches need replacing. She said the tranny slips once in a while. I'm hoping fluid fixes it. The power steering pump was bone dry. I put some power steering fluid in it, when I turn the wheel, it makes a sqweeling noise. After turning the wheels a few times (maybe 2 minutes worth), I checked the fluid and it was half gone. She charged the AC but said it only lasted the summer. The inside is terribly messy! Found some pizza, god only knows how long it was there. Harder than a rock. The seats are in good condition and it needs new tires. The only way to turn the wiper blades off is to remove the fuse (#25).
She said the thermostat needs replacing and there's a coolant leak by the driver side rear tire (I'm assuming for the rear heating). They had been putting water instead of antifreeze in it and I'd like to get that fixed first before winter comes.
My question is about that leak. I looked up under there and saw there was some sort of dust cover. To remove it, it looks like I need to remove the cross member that connects to the two sides of the frame. Is this how I access the coolant line? And does anyone know if it's a metal line or just a rubber hose?
The check engine light is on as well. Is there anyway to check what codes are being thrown without using a scan tool?
There's definitely a lot of problems, but if the transmission is still good, if the heads aren't warped or if the head gasket isn't blown, most of the problems seem easy to fix. Just gonna cost a little bit I guess. One of the local junk yards don't have this model. They said the latest they have is a 2004 and it's a totally different body. They said none of the parts I need would work. Thanks for any help!

I believe I made a mistake. The previous owner said V6 and I never checked. I just went up there and looked. Although I couldn't actually see any plugs or wires, I did see a fuel line hidden on the driver side of the engine. The passenger side just has the exhaust manifold plus a few other things. Gotta be an straight 6. Is there a way to delete this thread?
The brake fluid reservoir seems to almost have a bluish tint to it. I almost wonder if they put windshield washer fluid in the brake fluid reservoir...

Whoops. I went to a totally different website and created an account there. I created a thread at http://forums.trailvoy.com/ . Thanks for pointing me to the correct forum though.

I thought about it at first but then I decided no. I know some people get upset when people do that. I don't really know why but I've seen posts where people were getting mad at someone from posting the same question on different sites. Anyway, I got an answer to my question on the other forum. Turns out my vehicle is a 2005 Chevy TrailBlazer LT EXT (Extended). Seats 7 and does have coolant lines and freon lines that run back there, but on the passenger side, not driver. I'm thinking maybe my sisters husband who gave me the vehicle just got the side wrong. Gonna start taking the cross member and dust shield off to see what's under there.
