Creaking Sound
When driving at slow speeds (less then 40 mph) my Blazer will creak like it is a haunted house. It gets really bad when the roads are rough. My guess is the shocks are in need of replacement.
When I got the Blazer home I got onto the rear bumper and bounced it. When I did this I could hear it creaking, hence why my guess is the rear shocks. I tried the same thing from the front side by pushing it down repeatedly and heard nothing.
Just wanted to get another opinion before I spend the money on rear shocks of whether or not they are the likely source of the problem.
Also what is the difference between these Monroe's:
Option 1
Option 2
Does anyone have experience doing the rear ones. I took a quick look and it seems like it would be easy, except there isn't much bolt left...

I have option one on my Jeep with a mild lift. I'd get them again for sure. I imagine the "light truck" would be a bit stiffer.
I just put the Monroe Spectrums on the Blazer. 2 different animals for sure, but they seem to handle quite nice as well.

So would these work fine for a smooth ride? They are the only spectrum I found for the rear on rock auto. Honestly wish there were less options. Too many choices and they all seem so similar.
I sprayed that leaf spring and shackles at the bolts and tried bouncing on the bumper again, still creaks. The creaking seems to happen mostly when it is on the low part of the bounce.
Can anyone confirm that there is a good chance that it is the shocks? Also how difficult will the rear be, it looks like the rusty bolts are going to be a pain if they strip. Any Tricks?

Work on whatever suspension part quiets when you spray WD40 on it. This would be a 2-person job. One to bounce, the other to spray and listen. Remember: Michigan = very rusty underneath. Might even be the spring seats, but I would think that would eventually go away fter the Winter.
Using good quality 6-point sockets will help avoid rounding off of bolt heads.

Not if you keep your body outside! Arms are for reaching!! Nozzles are for spraying!! :-) I would be more concerned about getting completely under it with all four wheels off the ground on stands as you previously described.
If something quiets with WD40, you have found the source. Then just need to determine how to fix. That will depend on what it is. We can help with that.
