Default Electrical Issues

This past February i purchased a 1998 s10 blazer for my wife. With the way mine has treated me i figured i couldnt go wrong. It drove really nice until a couple of weeks ago. Driving down the road i noticed all the guage lights on and all manual guages were not working. Still drove smooth bbut cluster issues. I reached up and taped the plastic of the cluster and lights went off and guages returned to normal. This can happen 3 or 4 times on the 10 mile trip to and from work, then go a a couple of days before it does it again. Anyone have any idea or seen anything like this.

A lot of weird electrical issues can be traced back to a failing ignition switch. I wrote a fairly detailed explanation as to why a number of years ago that you should be able to find by either browsing the Tech Article summary thread or searching for "Anatomy of the Ignition Switch". Basically the contacts inside the switch can corrode which causes resistance, heat, and more corrosion. Symptoms can occur seemingly at random based on how well of a connection is made at the time you started the vehicle, but will typically become more consistent.
