Fan hits shroud when first started?
Hello,
This is my latest issue....The cooling fan rubs on the fan shroud when I first start the Blazer.Looks like slightly rubbing the bottom edge of shroud.
Once I put it into gear and drive maybe 5' it stops and wont do it the rest of the day?
I am used to the piston slap when cold but the added noise is driving me crazy...lol
I am thinking motor mounts and or trans mount, anyone experience a simular issue????
Thank You in advance.

Mine was doing the same, except it wouldalso seem to hit every so often during the day. I changed out the complete fan clutch and all is well.
I bought one from the junk yard for $15. When I was looking at them, I notice some had just a slight movement in the bearing. So I'm guessing that was just enough to allow it to rub.

Either the lower shrowd is lose or possibly the fan clutch or water pump is bad. There is always the chance its a motor mount or tranny mount, but they are prettystrong on blazers, its not like we are talking about a ford tarus. I would say just feel around, try to wiggle the shrowd, and if thats ok take the belt off and wiggle the water pump and fan clutch. There shouldn't be any play side to side or in and out for these.

Thanks ,
I'll pull my belt off and yard on the fan....The shroud is secure and there isnt any funny noises coming from the front of the motor, other than the cold morning rub...
I've tried moving the fan/waterpump up/down,side to side with the belt on and there is "0" movement. I'll try with the belt off...

If it's slight and only in the AM for a moment, I'd look at filing the spot where it hits(as long as everything else is ok). if it is indeed hitting the shroud then there should be a spot. good luck. JP

RE: Fan hits shroud when first started?
I tried moving the fan again today and I have very slight play.
The fan clutch doesnt seem to move just behind the hub.Could the waterpump bearing have play and not leak?
The rub is just on the bottom of the shroud. The fan tips are just grazing the plastic.
