Default front axle engagement trouble

Hello, I'm new here and was hoping to get a little help. I have a 96 blazer 4 door, 122 k on it. The 4wd is not engaging. This is what I've have done so far: All fuses are good, 4 hi and 4 lo lights work as normal, can hear transfer case engagemnt at the push of the buttons. The trasnfer case is shifting in 4wd (drive shaft won't turn when in 4 hi) Figured probably a vacuum issue, but pulled battery out and pulled cable with vice grips just to quick check that, and still no 4wd. Any suggestions would really be appeciated, can't afford to take it to a dealer. (After I clamped the cable I took it out to a hill and tried to engage with the cable pinched.)

PS - I did a search, most problems were vacuum related, encoder motor relatedor TCCM related which I don't think are my problems though maybe I'm wrong. Must be something not engaging in the front axle huh?

Default RE: 4wd engagement trouble

I fixed mine on Sunday. It was a broken vacuum line, directly above the distributor, on the firewall. You might check that first(I had the tranny changed last spring, and I don't think we checked the 4WD after changing the tranny, so I guess it got the end pulled off, during the switch).

Push your 4Hi button. Then pull your cable by hand and lock it in the pulled out position with wire. Make sure you pull it hard and fully...only about 1/2", but fully nonetheless.

I tested mine the way you said and it took a bit of work to get it to engage into 4WD pulling the cable with vise grips.

If this test works, then follow my instructions in my signature. Worked wonders for my truck.
