fuel gauge sticking
My fuel gauge in my 2002 Blazer sticks at 1/4 tank and sometimes bounces all over the place when tank is half full. What is causing this. If it is the sending unit what does this cost to fix.

RE: fuel gauge sticking
It is a sending unit problem. The sending unit itself can be replaced separately, but it requires dropping the fuel tank.

thank you. Seems like this is a common problem. Should have been a recall. Are the the replacement sending units from gm better than the originals with this problem

RE: fuel gauge sticking
They have been updated. The life of the sending unit can be prolonged with the use of Top Tier fuel and/or using GM Fuel System Treatment at each oil change. It is the sulfur in the non-Top Tier fuels that causes problems with the resistance grid in the sending unit. GM isn't the only manufacturer with this problem either. I have seen quite a few other manufacturers with this problem on mid to late 90's vehicles.
It's not a recall because it is not an immediate safety problem. You can always fill up more frequently to avoid running out of fuel.
