Default Poss TCCM problem

Ok, I have searched through 78 pages in this forum, cant quite find what I am looking for. Any help appreciated. My friend has a 1999 Chevy Blazer 4wd.

They recently had a problem where they tried out the 4wd and it was not working right at all. so he tried to put it back into 2wh and it did not want to go. so he then shut the engine off and while holding the 2wh button on the dash started the engine and seemed to work just fine.

Now they drove the Blazer 260 miles from NC to VA. They called me saying that there was a grinding noise coming from the right side of the vehical. I drove out to check it out and I believe that it is the transfer case<-- (not real sure). All in all, I do not think it is safe to drive back home 260 miles. My buddy and I were passing ideas back and forth like pulling the drive shaft and transfer case off and putting a 2wd drive shaft on to see if it would work. We don't even know if it would work. We have very little money and limited tools with us. Kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place.... All in all, we are in Lynchburg, VA. Any one know where we can get a good used transfer case for a 1999 Blazer pretty cheap? Wow its 5 a.m.

Or does any1 know if I can tow this Blazer home 260 miles with a 2000 Hyundai Sonatta gls v6?

I am stumped.
