Help finding replacement fuel tank on 2005 2dr 4x4
TLDR: Need to find a fuel tank because my wife's truck has an oddball, modification to fit the normal tank or repair are also options.
Been fixing up my wife's truck and getting the thing safe to drive on the street again, made a lot of progress but I've hit a wall with the fuel tank.
The tube coming off the tank where the filler neck connects has a crack in the seam that runs just about the entire way around. I tried patching it but it started leaking again not long after, pretty sure the epoxy in those patch kits isn't meant to hold two things together.
Anyway, I'm looking to find a new fuel tank and am having a hell of a time, the tank on her truck looks like this:
But all of the fuel tanks I can find for her truck look like this:
My first choice is to replace the tank with the same part that I'm taking off her truck. That situation is ideal, keeping the truck the way it was when it rolled out of the factory. Second choice would be to replace it with the other tank with whatever modifications would be required, as long as the modifications are reliable and will pass emissions testing. My last choice is to pull the port off the old tank and replace it with something else, a new port. I don't like this idea because I'm concerned with emissions testing as well as I'm just not a fan of doing repairs like this on my wife's truck.
Sorry for the length of the post, but if anyone has any information that could help I'd really appreciate it. Chevy has been unhelpful, as well as the auto parts stores I've contacted. I'm basically just looking for the replacement tank, or a guide/explanation about how to modify the other style fuel tank.
Thanks guys!
