Default Hood Opening Problems

Hey guys, whenever I pull the lever to open my hood, my hood doesn't pop up.
To get it to pop up, I have to slam my door.

I'm scared I caused this because I ran some wires from under the door threshold behind the hood lever and up to the lights panel.

Anyone know how I could possibly fix this or what the cause of this could be?

The cable tends to stretch a bit over time and the spring at the latch tends to weaken as well. Both end up resulting in an inoperative latch.

I have taken some small washers & used them to take the sloop out of the cable at the latch. You have to snip one side of the washer and spread it over the line. Once its on the line, bend the slit back shut. I have had to add as much as 4 washers to take the slop out of the cable in the past.

Another option would be to put a stronger spring in. You just have to make sure that there isn't any tension on the latch when everything is in it's neutral position.

My 2000 had that problem less slaming the door to open.
I had to bang the drivers side front corner of the hood to get mine to pop.
The problem with mine was the cable end under the hood.
The small metal keeper on the end of the wire had slid down effectively making the cable too long.
So I doubled it over on itself to shorten and secured it with a zip-tie.
That was about three months ago and it opens every time.

Wouldn't hurt to spray the hood latch and cable with a bit of lube either. That's one of those things that can happen to any car even if you haven't been fudging anything.

Thanks to all of you for the replies. I shall spray some lube, see if that affects it, then I'll investigate the line/spring.

this is a very common problem not just with blazer but chevrolet/gmc in genral...the type of wire they use streches out too easy....find a way to tighten it back up will more than likely fix the problem...i worked at a chevy dealership for years and that was one of the biggest thinks the trim department had to fix all the time

Well, I invested a bit and found this spring to be a bit smashed together.
