Default Instrument lights

New to the forums and will start off by saying Hi to everyone. I just purchased a 1999 blazer and just have a few questions. The 4wd push buttons, the defrost and a/c push buttons are not lighting up when all other instrument lights are. Are these supposed to light up? Thanks for the help

yes all of those should light up.

does the 4wd work? did it work when you bought it? when you start the truck, the 4wd lights should flash and blink while it does the start up self test.... pop it out of the dash and check the connections and wires. could be a bad switch.

the lights on the HVAC controls are soldered in. so if the bulb is fried, you're out of luck there, but it could just be a bad connection/ground causing the problem

I didnt notice when I bought it, my fault for that. Yes all the push bottons work just the backlighting doesnt. Guess time to dig into and find the problem. With that many not working I hope its just a bad connection

so long as the rest of your 4wd works, then i would just go to a junk yard and get a $3 4wd switch (same # of buttons 3-4 is crucial) and plug that pig in. if it lights up, and your 4wd still works you win

but it sounds like a bad connection some where to me.

The indicator light works that tells you what is selected, its the backlighting on the switches that doesnt. Sorry if I washard to understand.

Actually Curtis HVAC's aren't soldered in..they're bulbs and sockets (unless they were a different HVAC in 99?). They're a size 37 bulb. You can pull your dash apart if you like and see whether the bulbs are burnt out. I find it hard to believe that all the bulbs are burnt out though. It sounds more like a wiring issue or possibly a blown fuse? have you checked all the fuses?
The 4x4 switch is soldered lights. You'd have to re-solder the mini bulbs in there if you plan on replacing it yourself. I'd recommend picking up a new one as Curtis suggested though. It's a lot easier.

I am going to tear apart on my days off and also check for fuses. It is strange that they all are out, I can understand 1 or 2 bulbs but not all. The local pull a part just got in a 99 blazer so I might be in luck to get some parts. Thanks for all the help
