I have a '02 2dr 2wd blazer. When it rains, water leaks in through the tailgate. I replaced the weatherstripping around the tailgate and also the one on the tailgate where the glass meets the gate. The water seems to run along stripping on the gate and then runs along the inside of the gate. Does anyone know if I can put some type of silicone along that piece of weatherstripping or does the tailgate go out of alignment?

 

Check the hinges at the top of the lifgate...if they are worn then the liftgate could be out of alignment...the window glass also has hinges to check also...make sure that the truck has not been rear end accident damage????

 

Get a helper and a water hose, one of you get inside the rear with a flashlight, have your helper spray water ( try to simulate a steady rainfall) watch with light around the hatch area for water leaks, see if this helps.

 

Thanks for the replies. The hinges are tight and secured but the water comes in were the weatherstripping along the glass edge wraps around to the inside of the hatch area. Last week I used some weatherstripping glue and glued the weatherstripping. I was wondering if epoxy or something else can be used to seal the weatherstripping. Also, according to "car fax" which came with the truck had no accidents reported on it.

 

do you happen to know if the car was in a wreck where the car was rear ended? anyway sounds like the rear hatch needs to be adjusted to fit properly against the weatherstrip, this job can be done with a helper and by taking your time, just remember too much adjustment inward can cause the hatch to scrape the roof panel, I think the car is too new for the seal to be collapsed, hope this helps, I will be watching.

 

Thanks for the info rickclad. I removed the weatherstripping and used another brand of weatherstripping glue and re-glued it. A buddy of mine just bought a '01 Blazer which is a 2dr as well sowecomapared the weatherstrips. It seemed on mine there was a gap where the weatherstrip sits on the tailgate. A few days after the glue dried, I soaked the rear of the truck with a hose and no more leaks.
