Default Killing the Check Engine Light?

I have a 98 2-Dr 4WD Blazer w/4.3 V6 / Automatic

My question is, I have an O2 sensor going out, and the CEL is on because of it.

I cant replace the sensor righ now, but is there anyway to KILL the light? A jumper or something??

If I reset it, It will just come back on.

Thanks

Default RE: Killing the Check Engine Light?

No way to defeat it without replacing the faulty component. However, how do you know that the sensor is bad? Just because a code says so? You really have to look at the sensor trace to know that the sensor is bad.

If it was truely annoying, you could put some black electrical tape over it. LOL... Disconnecting the battery will clear the codes, but if there truely is a problem, the light will be back on once you complete a drive cycle.

Let me ask you this, if the O2 sensor is bad and you can't replace it now, can you deal with paying the extra $$$ in fuel that you are wasting? It doesn't take long before you waste enough fuel to pay for a new sensor. A 2mpg drop in economy will pay for a $70 AC Delco AFS-105 (RockAuto.com) sensor in under 3000 miles (with a baseline of 15mpg dropping to 13mpg and an average fuel cost of $2.50/gallon to make things simple). But again, that is assuming that an upstream O2 sensor is bad.
