Default Liftgate Lift Supports

I've just been dealing with this for a long time now, but finally I want to get it fixed. My liftgate currently only has one lift support, since the other one broke off, making it unfunctional. I know the easy fix would be to purchase a new set from the auto parts store, but my problem is the ball attachment on the door completely snapped off along with the old lift support which I no longer have. My only idea on fixing it involves welding some new ball connector to allow the lift support to pivot on, but I don't know where i could find a piece to serve this purpose. Anyone have any ideas to help me out? Thanks in advance.

I have somewhat of an idea,

You stumble upon the identicle colored blazer at an Auto wreckers and take its lifegate? :P

Thanks for the idea but that's way more money and time than I'm looking to take, since those lift supports only cost $20 and my liftgate is in excellent condition other than the broken piece.

What about digging around in the bins of your local hardware store for ideas?
Install a small bolt and the round off the head?
Install an allen head bolt?

Check here. Numbers four and five are what you should need. Unless you are thinking something else. Hope that helps you out and saves you any headache.

Thank you Yooper, That is exactly what I was looking for. I wasn't sure they even sold those separately... all I should need to do now is a simple weld to reattach the pivot.
