Default Should I go Green?

Okay, my truck is an '05' I bought new new years eve of '05'. It has 28k orig miles on it and the stick build date shows 04/04 so it is nearing the 5yrs old mark. I recently opened the radiator cap and noticed a very fine powder collection in the crevices. I want to spend the money to fully flush the coolant system to avoid the dreaded heatercore nightmares. The question is should I stick with Dexcool, or risk a shop to flush it very very well and put Prestone Standard Green in? I would like to hear everyone's experience with this. 'LastCoupe' since you are GM tech, what is your opinion as far as current dexcool goes? thanks for everyone's responses in advance!

Run a search on Dexcool and find the VERY lengthy thread. Many, MANY opinions expressed along with some actual facts of the matter.

naw the reason for dex cool is that the green **** will start eating and rusting every thing. most people came in for heater core problem because of it. Dex cool helps that. if you like your truck run dex cool.

The funny thing is that Dex-cools issues stem from its organic acid ingredients that help it last a very long time without needing replacement. The green stuff is now the same organic acid (OAT) coolant as dexcool...but...curiously...I don't have the sludging issues with my new batch of green compared to my other tank of dex cool.

In theory...if you maintain a properly working cooling system, you wont have any issues with dexcool.
