Default Is my tranny OK update.

Recap: My original post discussed whether or not my 2005 4x4 Blazer should roll backwards on a slight hill, pause in between D and R, and what this whining noise I was getting was.

Update: Right now the truck is at the dealer and when I went in they actually sent a "transmission specialist" to ride with me. He said the whine is not normal so whoever that other guy was that said he had the same problem, you have a problem! He didn't know what was making the noise but he did say they would figure it out.
The technician also said that in an effort to save wear and tear and fuel, GM decided to begin making cars that do not push as hard or bind up. To me it seems like I just have to push the gas that much harder to make it go anywhere but he said that is normal on the new ones and NOT on the older ones. So if your late model rolls backwards when in drive or forward when in reverse, that is Chevy normal.
The long pause...Technician claimed a 3-5 second pause when manually changing gears is normal as well. Guess I will just have to practice not backing out in front of anyone at Wal Mart from now on b/c they will have to wait that much longer for my normal transmission.
New issues...At about 55 or so if you punch it, the engine will surge, and then grab sharply as if going into neutral before the passing gear. It will even go past redline while doing this. Technician agreed this was also a problem.
And finally, sometimes it gets stuck in 3rd and will not go into overdrive. Though it did not do this while he was riding with me they seemed to know about it at the dealership and said they would fix this problem too.
The dealership said they would probably have the truck a few days as they have to fix another issue with my door and rear gate but when I hear something, I'll let you fine folks on the forum know what I know.

I wouldn't take the "They all do that" line. That is complete and utter BS. Its a new vehicle. DEMAND that it be fixed. Stand strong! If need be, bring legal talk into the equation. Ask them to test drive another '05 Blazer and see if that one drives the same.

I will be amazed if they can get the door fixed, let alone the transmission. On the drivers side door I can see daylight just over my left shoulder through the door seal. If I drive through a carwash I usually get a wet ear. As you can imagine the road noise is horrible. I bought the truck from the dealer used with 12,000 miles on it and my first thought was it was wrecked. To quote the body shop at Milton Reuben Chevrolet, "well, if it's wrecked they did a damn good job because we can't tell". I couldn't tell either. All lines on the truck match perfectly as does the paint. Nothing looks remotely funny about the door unless you look where I described.

Bump and update. No news. Two days at the dealer and not a call.

There is a delay when shifting gears, however not more then a second or so. All vehicles will roll backwards while in drive gear, some require a bigger hill then others. Plus the softer the shift points the less of a hill required. To improve the smoothness of ride, most trannies are set for very soft shifts. The harder the shift, the longer the tranny will live.

Allright, I just called Chevrolet. The truck has been there 3 solid days. The guy on the phone said it was now in the body shop for the wind noise after they rebuilt the transmission. He said it "had some burnt reverse clutches" in it and maybe a belt or two?
The truck has been the way it is since I got it with 12000 miles so what the hell do you think the previous owners did to it?

i have a similar problem where i'll punch to pass someone..and the engine will surge but wont go any faster. this was really bad when i first started driving the truck after it had been in government storage for 2 yrs while i was in Korea. sometimes it wouldnt go past 30. sometimes my check engine light comes on...then goes off by itself. i cleaned off my MAF and it worked good for one trip, then started w/ the problem again. i did some research and i think it might be the egr,erg valve..w/e one is right. im goin to order one and hopefully it will fix the problem
