ok so when i line up the marks on balancer the intake valve (second from the front) is open. It is not supposed to be is it? Also if i am turning the crank and feeling for air to come out the plug, the marks arent close when i feel the air

Nope. When the marks are lined up, both valves must be closed.

It depends how close you "time" releasing the starter after you feel/hear the stronger burst of air. If you have the driver side rocker arm cover off, do it as described in post #30. If you do it like that, you KNOW it's correct.

Ive tried doing it like in post #30. Liked i said when i line the marks up the intake valve is open. I am turning the crank by hand and waiting for the air to push my finger off. I thought i might be able to get it close to tdc that way since the marks are no help to me since they are off.

Don't pay attention to the push of air, it's gonna mess you up When the piston is at TDC and the intake valve is open, the cylinder just completed the exhaust stroke and is starting the intake stroke. Rotate the crankshaft one revolution clockwise and line up the timing marks. Both valves should be closed.
