new to forum.. need help with cluster
first off i'm nick. i own a 1990 bmw 325i and i'm an avid user on bimmerforums.com. the reason i am posting here is for my mom.
she has a 1996 jimmy. she went to get it inspected and it threw code p1440 out but the check engine light is not on. i think the PO took the bulb out.
so what i am looking for is the cluster removal procedure. i have a haynes manual but it doesnt really cover the entire process.
thanks!

I had done it with my 2k blazer, but you have a pre 98 so it has a different interior.
but for mine i had to remove the lowest kick panels above your feet, then next one(knee level) then the bezel that is around the radio, gauge cluster, vents. fyi there is one screw the points up in the gauge cluster area kinda hard to see. then you should be able to see the screws for the gauge cluster. Hope its helps but this is my info from a 98+

i have the bezel out, the cluster unbolted. and it seems like i have to take the wheel off to take the steering column covers off to pull the cluster out. correct?

also what are the commom causes of p1440?

so i got a cluster from another truck, figured out how to get the old one out. i made sure the bulb was good and the CEL still didnt work. what would be the cause of this? it seems like a wiring issue.
