New owner/BCM help
So I just received a Blazer from a friend and its having that stupid security issue. I can’t start it unless I try it over and over. He states that it had a security system installed that prevents it from being stolen and it was shorted out. So he removed it. I’m thinking he’s talking about the BCM.
My questions are:
1. Would the vehicle be able to run without a BCM
2. Can I take a used BCM to the dealership (without my vehicle) and have them program it corresponding to the vin.
Anything helps!

Welcome to the forum. The engine will run with no BCM. Body control modules rarely cause problems. I'd double check the work of who installed and removed the aftermarket alarm system. Make sure it's removed, not just disconnected, and the wiring was repaired correctly. Also check for any wiring that could have burned when the alarm shorted.

The body control module on your truck interacts with the security system and the related ignition interlock, taking inputs from the key status and the door handles. It also controls the lighting. If there is ignition, the truck should run without it. There are outfits that can clone BCMs for way less than the thousands that the dealer will charge. One such shop is AES in Jacksonville Florida. They give a lifetime warranty.
