2001 Gmc Jimmy 2dr 4x4

Whether or not these are related, I dont know.

I have been getting a fuel smell around the truck and also in the cab when driving. It seems to be intermittent as it is not always present. I have pulled over a few on separate occasions after driving a while to look for any leak. There is not visible leak. I blew the lines out from the EVAP Canister with compressed air. No change.

This week im constantly getting a p0453 (EVAP emission control pressure sensor high input.) I did replace the fuel pump back in december but thats also when I bought the truck so I do not know if it smelt like fuel before the pump change (Pump blew out 6 days after I bought the truck) One thing I may add is that I did not use the new o ring that came with the pump which was more of a sleeve, I used the old one.

I dont know If these are related but I just dont know where to start. Any help is apreciated. Thanks

 

also the p0453 cam up pretty soon after I blew out the canister lines for the fuel smell a few weeks ago. I blew into the gas lines which i disconected from the canister with medium compressed air.

 

I couldn't connect that code with a system leak, now it makes more sense. Replace the tank pressure sensor, it's been wounded by pressure exceeding design specs I'd say. As for the gas smell you may not see a puddle on the ground. I'd suggest jacking the left side of the truck in the air, start it for a minute and look for wetness on the steel lines to the inside of the frame.

 

RonJon, you're my hero. I kept my old fuel pump so I took the pressure sensor off that and popped it on my truck and the light hasnt come back. Thanks you so much. Rep added.
