Default PLEASE HELP! Strange issue with new alternator.

Hey everyone. This is my first post on the fourms. I'm in dire need of some help right now. Here's my issue. I just installed a new alternator on my 2001 LT Blazer 4.3 4x4. When I reconnect the battery, my headlights, dash lights, instrument panel, door chimes etc. all come on. I can hear relays clicking as well. No keys in the ignition. Obviously a massive short somewhere....??? This is my daily driver so any help ASAP would be just awesome! Thank you!

Your surging the computer - Hook positive up first then the negative - when unhooking a battery, negative first then positive

Nope that's not it. Battery was unhooked/reconnected in the proper order. I should add that it won't turn over at all. There's power, but turning the key to start just gets a click and dimming of the lights. Very odd because it still would start, run and drive with the old alternator. That was yesterday. New parts, new problems. Any other suggestions? Almost has to be a short somewhere dosent it? Possibly a pinched or broken wire? Only thing else I can think of is ignition switch? I'm at a loss.

Reinstall the old alternator, make sure the battery is fully charged and see if it behaves like it did prior to the new alternator installation..

If you had to turn the old alternator in for a core, ask the store if they still have it. Or, explain the issue and see if they will let you try a different new one.

Did you confirm that the new alternator was an exact replacement to the old one. It's amazing what some stores pass off as direct replacements now a days. Typically a short would blow a fuse and then nothing would happen.

Took the alternator back to NAPA. Turns out it was defective. They happily exchanged it and now the Blazer is back up and running. Thanks to everyone here for your input. Seems like a decent bunch of folks around here. I might hang around here more often. Thanks again guys.
