Random no start, unhappy wife
Hey guys
the 05 jimmy died on the highway last December. Only started on ether so I jumped the gun and bought a new fuel pump and sending unit, fuel filter changed it all. It has worked for 6 months, life has been good. Wife satisfied. Twice in the last month has it not wanted to start. Both times have been after a long drive, and then it sits for maybe half an hour. If I wait until a few hours later, it fires right up. These things are are way more electronically complicated than I'm used to. I don't have any codes. Next time it doesn't want to start on me, what should I check? Is there somewhere I can permanently install a fuel pressure gauge and monitor it next time? Should I hear the fuel pump when I turn the key to accessory, or just during crank? thank you all for reading |
What comes to mind: vapor lock because of a bad gas cap. Happened to me with a previous vehicle.

Fuel pressure regulator leak/int. fuel pump issue come to mind (with me)..gauge should shed some light on this. You could hook a fuel pressure gauge up and tape it to an inconspicuous spot on the windshield. Look for little 'bleed off' key off and 52-53 lbs (or more) while cranking..Good luck as int. issues are tough..Jerry

Youll here the fuel pump at key on for a few seconds.
Pull a plug wire wire right away and see if you have spark when this happens. Pick up a spark measure tool and have it ready. A screw driver and an air gap to ground in a pinch. You can tape a fuel gauge to the windshield to monitor or have a gauge ready to attach to the schrader port on the fuel rail. George |
