Update:

After driving around all day today I am confident that the calipers were the root cause of my original problem. There is no more sticking or dragging of the rear brakes, also no more odor of burnt up brake pads.
Hopefully i start getting more than 10-11mpg's too! It looks like it is back to normal based on my obervations on the DIC mileage monitor today, we'll know for sure next fill up.

Default Related Rear Caliper Question

All -

Having a similar problem on my '99 Blazer with the rear calipers apparently sticking. I replaced the rear brake pads yesterday. Slides, brackets, and pins were all cleared of rust & lubed as appropriate. The pads themselves now move pretty easily in their bracket guides. However, I noticed on the passenger side, the dust boot that is supposed to protect the piston from dirt & water was severely cracked open, and I'm assuming that its gotten water down in there , as the piston was harder to compress (past a certain point) than it should have been.

My question is, does anyone know whether a rebuild/reseal kit is available for these calipers? I've tried several of the main parts sources, but even NAPA & CarQuest don't list any. GM Parts Direct lists a rear caliper overhaul kit, but it offered no illustrations & was for a '99 Bravada - nothing came up for my Blazer.

I'd prefer to just rebuild the ones I've got as opposed to spending the money for a rebuilt set from the parts store. I know it sounds cheap of me, but I've done it several times before on my other vehicles, with good results.

As Always, Thanks In Advance !!

It is just easier and cheaper in the long run to get reman'd calipers.

Just buy the Reman'd caliper. Once upon a time I used to put rebuild kits in alternators too to save money. I've since concluded aggravation has a value too.

the reman'd calipers are only $30-$35 at Napa, they have brand new pistons in them and a brand new dust boot. i cant imagine that a rebuild kit would be much less than that, if one is available.

Yeah, I rebuild my Clutch slave and Brakes on my motorcycle. But, like you I do not see the typical $8 Rebuild kits for these rear calipers.
When I did my daughters a month ago, I bought the Rem'd, Painted them the color of the car, made sure the Bleeders would come loose, Anti Siezed teh threads on teh Bleeder and threw them on.
I know the $40 hurts compared to $8 for a Rubber boot but....
