According to my repair manual, you need a scan tool to clear the codes. I purchased one at our local parts store (Pep Boys) for about $80. I have seen them advertised at the following:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=46030 for $39.99.

This device allows you to reset the trouble code(s)

Yeah disconnect the battery and let it sit for about 5 mins, the light should go out and will come back on if there's a problem

You don't have to purchase a code reader to clear the codes. Most autoparts stores will let you per say rent one and they will hold onto your license and/or credit card. It is an easy out in the parking lot kind of fix. It will save you the $80 bucks.

The battery won't clear my check engine light. It comes on right now due to my secondary air pump and wonky fuel gauge. Two times i had the codes checked and both times the same codes came back for the above problems. I even tried unplugging it for over an hour on both terminals. It time to bite the bullet and fix the stupid thing.

lemon, please start a new thread on your problem (if you haven't already). Also, please post the exact codes that you have read from your PCM. I do not believe that a faulty fuel level sender has any OBD2 (generic or manufacturer specific) associated with it.
