Default New MU1735 fuel pump vs old MU13

Hi, I need to replace the fuel pump on my 1996 Blazer 4dr.

I read several threads and one thread was talking about how the writer did not like the new delphi fuel pump design.

I see both the old ACDelco MU13 and the new ACDelco MU1735 fuel pumps are both available.

So, my question is, is there a preference between the new with the built in strainer (and whatever other new changes), and the old with the external connected strainer?

Also, does anybody know if the old mu13 has the old square connecter, so that I don't need to cut and solder wires?

I just saw today that Amazon lowered the price on the Delphi pump FG0030. I was decided on an ACDelco brand because it was only a few bucks more, but now that there's a price difference of $40-$50, I have to ask myself if the ACDelco is worth the difference...

Thanks!

The newer pumps come with a flat 4 connector, call the seller to be sure. They switched to the flat 4 due to the square ones heating up, melting and causing the pump to fail prematurely due to the high resistance in the connector.

Is it worth $40 - $50 not to do the job again, and again, and again? I though so AC Delco and Delphi are the ONLY pumps to use.

Yes, I confirmed that the old one has the original square style connector.

I ordered the new acdelco one. Thanks!

Solder the new flat 4 connector to the vehicle harness using 60/40 lead/tin rosin core solder. DON'T use crimp connectors.

I've been wondering this myself. Either tomorrow or Monday I'll be starting my fuel pump job with the redesigned pump.

If you, like me, have never done the job before, the best how-to I found was an airtex video titled "How to install Fuel Pump E3953M in 1997-1998 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, GMC S15 Jimmy".

Post how it turns out...

Yep, I've seen their videos on youtube, very helpful.

Have you done the job yet? Wondering about the performance of the new pump design.

I only use Delphi or AC Delco parts for fuel, electrical including plugs.

Oh absolutely, if there's one thing that I've learned from this site, it's to not bother with cheap pumps in these vehicles. Nothing wrong with using Airtex's videos to install an Acdelco pump, right?

Capt Hook,

Why are you saying to solder this new plug on and not use crimps?

Reason being I installed this new GM pump design and now my truck won't run. 60psi pressure, cranks and now injectors are opening and it almost starts.....but not enough fuel.

Is it because of this new pump design or that I used crimps on the wires instead of soldering them??
