Default Seized brake piston

Hi all,

I havent posted in a while because my jimmy has been relatively trouble free for the last 10k miles or so. My brakes have been screeching pretty bad lately so I finally pulled off the front wheels and checked everything out and replace the front pads

One of the pistons on my front passenger's caliper is pretty seized in place. I tried hitting it with some penetrating oil to see if it would free up with no luck. I barely got it collapsed in enough to fit it back over the new brake pads. Is there a way to re-build the calipers cheap or is it best to just get a re-manuf from the store?

Also, how dangerous do you guys think it is to drive it as is? After getting everything back together i took it for a quick test drive around the block and the braking performance seems to be fine, it doesnt pull and it seems to stop fine. is it ok for a couple days or should i not drive it until this gets taken care of? I imagine that it has been stuck for about 3 or 4 months since thats about when the screeching started.

get a reman from the store. 12 bucks at advance auto after you turn in your car.

I agree with sir otto, buy a reman. some places give you maybe $5 bucks when you give them your old one. and as far as driving it the way it is,since you say it is handling fine, the only problem would be is that you wear out that set of pads quicker than the other

UPDATE,

I replaced the caliper today, got a reman with the hardware kit for $45 from NAPA. Pretty easy job, and bleeding was a piece of cake since i only had to bleed the one caliper.

It would be nice to know what you are working on besides a jimmy. Put something in your signature.
