Service Engine Soon: Tranny Code ?
Just bought a 98 Blazer LT (146K mi) from a private seller. It runs & drives OK after new ball joints. My shop gets 2 codes from the diag. computer. One is "Fuel Injection" which he suspects is the Spider Fuel Injector ($650-700). Not sure about this since the recpts that came with it show fuel injctr work back in May '11. The other code is "Transmission". I have read several posts regarding trans but their problems aren't similar. In fact, it shifts fine! The only thing that may be related to the trans is a vibration that happens when stopped at a red lite. It ranges from "mild" to "worse". Whan at its worst, the sun visors shake and there is some thumping noise. You'd think the engine is mis-firing & threatening to stall but the rpms remain at a steady 600 or so. Shifting to Neutral doesn't help. Giving it a bit more gas and keeping my foot on the brake helps a little. The shaking stops (or becomes unnoticable?) as soon as you pull away. Its as if some driveline component that is supposed to spin in a tight spiral is not doing so at idle. If any other members have had, and solved (!), a similar problem, please respond. Thanks!

You need to get the specific code numbers from the shop, not a generic name. Then go to our Posted OBDII Trouble Code Diagnosis and Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) sections to get the specific information you need. If you need help beyond that point, let us know.

Thanks. Will do. My shop cleared the codes and said to bring it back in 40 miles or so for a re-check. The Service lite came back on almost immediately naturally. I don't know how skilled these guys are with trans stuff. I web-searched for nearby Aamco & Cottman shops. Aamco is closest but the 'net showed a crapload of sites with claims of how Aamco rips people off with unnecessary re-builds and repairs that stay "fixed" for less than a month. Yikes! I would just live with the problem but my shop won't give me the needed inspection stickers while the Service lite remains lit.
