Smile Shift interlock solenoid 2000 blazer

2000 blazer 4.3 at 4wd 4 button transfer case switch.
Is there an easy way to bypass/and remove the shift interlock solenoid, my wife went to start the truck this morning and it wouldn't start.

I beat the daylights out of the console shifter and finally got it to start,
i'm not working right now so money is very tight.
Thanks in advance
Barrett

Hi Barret
My wife has a 2001 LT 4x4 ,shfter is on the steering colum we have had the same issue for a while dealer couldn't find anything wrong, turn on the key everything lights up no crank at all play with the shfter a couple times it starts. I was thinking neutral safety switch, starter motor relay or starter itself or the wounderful ignition switch problem that so many people have with these it seems but like you I can't just start throwing money at it.So I am going to check out a fiew thing this weekend I will post what I find

Both of your problems sure sound like ignition switch issues. Check out the Anatomy of the Ignition Switch link in my signature and start testing the output from the ignition switch.

The shift interlock locks the shifter in park unless the brake pedal is pressed.

update guys
changed the Park Neutral position switch two weeks ago on mine and the truck has started perfect every time since. It was out of calibration with the transmission a bit due to normal ware or someone messed with it before it also controls your reverse lights. A month ago I noticed the wife had a burned reverse bulb upon changing it I noticed the bulb was really smoked I mean black ,that and the no start until you play with the shifter lead me to check out this switch because we didn't have any other symptoms of the ignition switch that I have read so many times on here.
The PNP switch is located on the drivers side of the tranny it attaches around the tranny shft lever and your shift cable attaches overtop of it with a 5/8 nut
two 1/2" bolts also hold it on the transmission.
I do recomend dropping your front drive shaft so you don't damage the switch trying to undue the wire connectors they are sealed on tight
and Make sure the truck is in neutral before you take off the battery ground as the switch comes calibrated in the box for neutral position only ,it has a tool on it holding the switch in position until you bolt it back on to the tranny, then you simply remove it
