Default Skid Plates

Hello...I was wondering if anyone knew where I could buy some skid plates to protect the front underparts of my blazer?

you could probably find a zr2 truck or blazer in the scrap yard. i would imagine that those skid plates would bolt up to a non zr2, and probably be your best bet. plus you get the full belly set up. 98 and older had aluminum, 99 and newer have carbon fiber. i'd go with the carbon fiber. i painted mine red to match the paint, turned out pretty good.

How much stronger then steel are those CF plates? I think the CF ones are for looks only, they will shatter when they hit a rock or atleast body panels do when hit. I used to make CF body panels and race car bodies I dont think it would be strong enough to handle what they are designed to do.

No Fear, find a junkyard like tycobb said, if you get em new expect to pay atleast 50 bucks for the smallest one.

well if youre going with the stock ZR2 skid plates you have 2 options. carbon fiber, and aluminum no steel. i said i would go with the carbon fiber because thats what i have. ive hit a bunch of crap and hardly have a scratch in thenm. i had a buddy that had a ranger with aluminum skids and they were bent, dented, twisted and all torqued to hell. thats why i say carbon fiber. everyone has there opinion on which is better nobody is necesarily right or wrong. and to answer detroit muscle, the carbon fiber skid plates are much thicker and the fibers are bigger then on body pannels.

p.s. nofear, you will want to find out it the ZR2 skid plates will even both up to a non ZR2. i would imagine they would have the holes for them in the non ZR2 but im not positive.

The front ZR2 skid will not bolt up to a non-zr2. They did make the aluminum skid plates for non-zr2's though, they're option code ZM5.

The rear two plates will bolt up, you need to buy a couple brackets for one of them, as the non-zr2's don't come with the mounting brackets.

The composite skid plates actually performed better on the GM proving grounds than the aluminum. I've had both and prefer the composite plates. Aluminum does not rebound like the composite does. If you drop your truck on the aluminum plates, expect a dent in them. The composite plates don't dent.
