Default Spider Injector Assembly? 1996 Blazer

Hello, I bought a 1996 Blazer back in Oct. Probably once or twice a week in the morning id here a "pop" noise under the hood. Now I started it yesterday morning and it started revved up and stalled. When I do get it going it hesitates badly until i get 20-30MPH. Then it doesn't hesitate but accelerates itself like "vroom vroom vroom" as if i am periodically stepping on the gas. As soon as I come to a complete stop it stalls IMMEDIATELY.
I used carb cleaner in the throttlebody and it did nothing. Someone suggested doing the throttle position sensor so I may. I Took it to the local mechanic down the street and he said the "Spider Injector Assembly" has to be replaced. He said Itll cost me $752 and change. Does this all sound right? Any suggestions? How hard is it to do the Spider Injector Assembly yourself? Any help would be appreciated. We have a baby on the way in 4 weeks and cannot shell out over 700 dollars on this car. Thanks!

I am not saying that the spider is not the problem, but it doesn't sound like that is the only problem to me... I would run fuel pressure and leak down test to see what that is and if you have a leak down problem. The fuel pressure check procedure is documented in the Tech Article (DIY) section.

Remove and clean the throttle body including the IAC passage. Remove and clean the MAF sensor and EGR valve.

The stumbling then run on issue may be a combination of a throttle body, EGR valve, and MAF sensor issue and may be able to be cured with a very minimal investment.
