hey guys, i got a 97 4x4 4dr with the 4.3. Just put a new starter in about 5 months ago, new fuel pump and filter like 9 months ago. battery is like 2.5 years old. So for a couple of weeks now my truck has been starting "funny" sometimes i have to hold they key for a little longer to get it to turn over then it kinda stutters for a quick couple of seconds. but sometimes it turns over so fast its almost like it started b4 i even get the key all they way turned. If it was just hard to start I would be able to figure it out, but with it turning over so "super quick" kinda throws me for a loop. I had autozone test the battery, and first it said, 95% charge then 100 then it came up bad battery. They guy was fumbling with the clamps and the side post terms. so i gonna bring it to another store and have them test it again. Any other ideas of what it could be??

 

Could be intermittent connections on the battery. I had very much the same symptoms with my old 2000 Bravada. It turned out to be a corroded positive terminal on the inside of the battery. No corrosion was visible on the outside, but the positive post came out of the battery when I tried to remove the cable. It got so bad that sometimes I could go out and try to start it and it would do nothing but dim all lights. Wait a second or two and it would start right up.

 

2 1/2 year old battery? My money would be on that being the problem.

 

Yea I picked up new terminal screws or whatever they are called, since mine are pretty old and getting corroded. I figured i will pop them on with a new batt and go from there.
