Default Strange Engine Stall

My 96 chevy blazer 4.3 vortec 4x4 stalls every time I start it, sometimes after 1 minute some times even quicker but it happens every time. I'm getting 1 code and it's the EGR P1406 pintle position code. I don't have a working multimeter to test the wires going to the EGR connector, however I don't think the EGR is the problem. I cleaned the pintle and it retracts fine and it seems to be in the right seating position. The other thing about the EGR is that the return gas tube to the EGR is damaged it wrinkeled when I had to remove the exhaust manifold but the truck ran with it damaged though.

note: when it stalls I try to give it gas and it has no effect on the idle or the stall, the engine just dies.

edit. 2nd note: there is a leak in the fuel tank tiny hole or 2.

I been reading these forums I was thinking maybe the fuel pump relay. If I try to restart the truck immediately after the stall it has trouble starting it takes a bit longer but it eventually starts up.

question on the year I have does the fuel pump starting noise come on every time you start the vehicle in other words if I turn the key to the on position for the first time I hear the fuel pump activate but if I turn the key off and re-turn the key to the on position I don't hear it again is that normal operation?

I appreciate any help I can get thank you.

Yea that's normal, driving around with holes in your gas tank is abnormal.

I figured it was normal fuel pump procedure just wanted to double check thanks.

Well after reving the engine a lot before it could stall the car idles for awhile. Now it's just a random stall. The good news is the EGR CEL is gone. I still have the leak in the gas tank as well.

I don't think those tanks are supposed to open vented, why not try some J-B weld to plug the the holes. If they got there from something poking the tank and not rust it could be a fix.

Wow this thread is already in the 3rd page, man this website gets busy.

Anywho I already JB welded the tank which fixed it temporarily but the tank is to far gone to re apply more JB weld it's just flimsy and rusty. The JB weld that I patched on the tank is fine there were probably 5-7 tiny holes now there are some new ones because the tank is rusted to **** and it's quite thin as well it needs replacement. Thanks for the reply though I appreciate any ideas.

also: When I said the Blazer stalls randomly I meant within every 20 minute cycle or so, could be longer could be shorter give or take.
