Default time for a tranny removal and install

i have a 96 blazer 4.3 four door 4x4 and i need to replace the tranny and so im won derin what the easiest and most effecient way to remove and install these transmissions. ive heard you can lift the body off the frame 5 or 6 inches and support it with wood blocks to remove tyhe tranny but i just really dont know what to do. i have also been told to take the engine and tranny out but i really dont want to go thru all the headache of removing every single wire and plug and what not to get this dang tranny in and out. i have a nice 2 ton jack and some jackstands but thats it, no garage or shelter to do this in and im running out of time to get this done so if any one has any info or input id really appreciate it.
