Default Tranny shift lever by steering wheel.

[X(]Hope this is right post section for this. The tranny shift lever on steering coloum, does it have some kind of return spring to push it towards the front of truck when in park.

Problem, I have to push my shift lever forward when in park or the ignition sticks when try to turn it off or on This just started. Allso the park indicator light in dash will not show park unless I push the shiftlever towards front of dash. I tried all data but could not find anything except how do replace shift lever. Will a new shift lever solve this problem or is there something in steering colum that would need replaced?

Thanks

Thanks for diagram. I am stumped. All I know is that when put lever in park it should spring forward when you let it go. It is really floppy like a lot of play in park. When you shift out of park you should have to pull shift lever towards you? There is still a little spring like pressure when pulling it forward to shift into gear.

Hopefully it will last till sprng, do not fell like standing out in snow and cold and messing with it.

thanks again.[8D]

im having the same problem, every time its cold, the shifter wont come out of park until the car warms up. i was forcing it today and now it wont go back into park and the indicator light doesnt work either. now, it wont turn on because it doesnt know its in park, so im stranded at school until i fix this. i see its been a while since you posted this, did you happen to figure out what the problem was since then? thanks for your help.

It won't show up in the diagram. It's not broken down enough. the spring is inside #39 "Linear Shift Shaft Assembly" GM probably sells that as a part and never intended their technicians to go any deeper in.
