TROUBLE CODES PO758-P0302
 
Yesterday had a tuneup done 96 4 dr 4 whl. drive 80k -plugs cap rotor- no wires mech. said wires were in great shape-also had shocks all the way around installed and oil-oil filter repl. and aslo trans. filter and fluid changed by a friends mech. Since then truck is sluggish from stop ( not like they were ever rockets) check engine light came on Auto Zone read and these two codes came up-P0302 misfire in cyl. #2 will check to see if lose wire etc, second one P0758-a short to ground, a short to battery or an open circuit condition in the elec. circuit for shift solenoid :B:I am leaning towards the last due to trans. sluggishness-can I check these on my own on the street orwill a lift be required, If not, how to check all the poss. cond. listed, thanks for all replies

I have seen when you put the trans pan back on one of the shift solenoids getting unplugged by accident. It happens when the edge of the pan catches one of the connectors. So the best thing you can do is pull the pan and check the connectors on the solenoids. For the P0302 code if this was not there before the tune-up, it is possible one of the plug wires were damaged in the removal/ installation process. Are the wires original, or have they been replaced before? If they are original, replace them, they are over 10 years old!! Even if they look great, they could be internally open. HTH, Korey.

Replace the wires... it is simple and inexpensive from a gas mileage misfire stand point since they have 80K on them just a smart thing to do.

You might have to go back into the transmission valvebody and make sure that all the wires are still connected. The solenoid mentioned is at the back of the valve body and potentially can be disturbed when removing or reinstalling the tranny pan, also make sure that all the other wires and cables are where they are supposed to be...there was another person here who did a tranny filter and broke something by not moving the tranny mount crossmember to get the pan off .....

Thanks for your responses, will have the truck back on the lift tomorrow-let you all know what we find.
