Default Turn Lights/Hazard Light Problem

Hi,

I just bought a 2001 Blazer 2nd Gen LS and here is my problem:
Turning on or on the Hazard lights does not make them work.
The turn indicator lights ONLY work when I turn off the Hazard Lights.
Hazard Lights only work when the Red button is also pushed to the left side.

While the left and the right indicator lights work fine, the klicking sound often is there/stays after turning them on/off. However it only klicks, they do not light up.
Cruise Control does not work, but when I turn it on It also activtaes the klicking sound of the indicator lights.
Every 4th or 5th time I turn on the car, the ABS lights show up and ABS does not work then.

I kind of feel that all these problems may be related.
Any of you guys know what could be the problem?

Thank you
Valentin

Now I just found out that the side breaking lights also do not work (the one in the middle does work)

If the Hazard button is pressed to turn on the 4 way flash, then the turn signals will not work, this is correct operation.

Now turning on the Cruise Control causing the clicking of the turn signal or 4 way flasher is completely wrong. Sounds like some wiring issues along the steering column. First check the large flat connector at the base of the steering column, this is where the multi-function switch connects to the vehicle wiring harness. Look for any displaced terminals, damaged wiring insulation, broken wires, etc. Move wires around and see if anything changes with the Hazard or turn signal operation.

Have you checked the break lite bulbs? These are two element bulbs, one for brake, one for turn signal/flasher. Since the middle or center brake lite is working, the wiring is probably okay.

Hi,

so here is the update:
So far I could not find any visible issues with the wiring.
I bought an ABS and OBDII reader, that tells me everything is fine. Could it be that the abs code is only readable when the abs light goes on?
Bought this one:
Amazon Amazon

I changed all the light bulbs to new ones (3057) and still the brake lights do not work except the middle one.
Fuses are fine, I checked them.

Any of you guys has an idea how I could fix this?

Sound similar to my astro when the multifunction switch crapped out.

Do you think that the multifunction switch can influence the braking light function? Did your astro also have the breaking light problem?

If this is still unresolved let me know and I'll grab some schematics and we will get you fixed up.

Hi George.
Yes it is still unresolved. So I am going to buy a new multi switch now. You guys have any if it is normal that the odb reader i bought does not give me any info concerning the abs?
Do I have to read while the abs error goes on, or is it saved after it occured once like other errors.
Otherwise I buy a new reader. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I agree this looks like the multifunction switch. The hazard/multifunction switch/brake light functions are integrated. The lower rear brake light function routes through these switches so that normal brake like function is interrupted during hazard but the top center brake light does not, that's why its unaffected. The power to the flasher module also routes through this switch of course.

Many ODB readers don't read ABS so that may be the issue with no codes.
