Exclamation 2 General questions....

First and foremost let me take a second to say hello to all of you on the forum!

I recently bought an 01 Blazer 2 door LS. One owner with 76k miles on it, it even has the original
owners manual. Couple of dings and scratches but for the most part pretty good shape inside and out.

It was advertised as the "Xtreme" package and I was under the impression that those vehicles always came
with the 5 speed manual transmission and had the "Low Rider" look to them, with the body kits and what not.
Mine looks like a typical S-10 blazer, so was that false advertisement or am I missing something?
I bought it from a used car lot, if that helps.

Also, I dont think the key is the Original Chevy one, possibly may have been swapped or replaced or could be
the secondary one.
I purchased it with out an alarm but wanted to know if alarms came standard with my model because
I do have the yellow security light that shows when I start it up, it goes away after.
It would be alot cheaper to just go get and program another clicker than to install an
after market alarm on it.

So if anyone can help me with these two questions that would be great.
Thank you all for taking the time to read and respond in advance.

First off, Welcome to the forum.

The best way to learn about your vehicle is from the list of codes that indicate all of the options that came with that vehicle. These are called RPO codes and the sticker with these listed along with your VIN should be on the inside of the glove compartment door. From the RPO codes, you can then deduce what option package came with your truck.

There are lists of codes online and even places that will decode them for a small fee or perhaps free.

As for the security system, the yellow "security" light is part of the factory security system that is activated by the key fob.

BTW, nice score on such a low-mileage vehicle!

The owner's manual will tell you how to set the factory alarm without a fob. It's just the power door lock button on my 2000.

RPO code AUO: lock control, remote entry. Make sure you have this or the fob won't work.

Xtreme blazers came with manual and auto transmissions.

Thanks for the quick responses, I have the sticker and will look in to the options that came with my Blazer.

Someone told me that the Xtreme editions could have also been in reference to the suspension of my vehicle.
It seems to sit a little lower than other blazers I have seen, not "Slammed" but lower.

So as far as the alarm goes I have some type of security measure on my truck because of the yellow light,
thats good to know.

I am really diggin' the DIY with Pics you all have contributed.

UPDATE

No I do not have RPO code AUO listed within the codes in my glove box.
Bummer....
So why would I have that yellow security light though?????

The 2001 Extreme edition should have RPO code Z87 (specific suspension) among other things. Shouldn't have LS badges. Auto trans was optional on Extreme trim vehicles in 2001

Look this over https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...let-Blazer.pdf There are tables of features by trim (LS, LT, Extreme, ZR2, etc).

You do have a factory security system if you have a security light - is very good compared to aftermarket. To test it just turn the ignition off, remove the keys, and lock the vehicle from the inside with the power door locks. Now wait over 30 seconds until security light goes off and then manually unlock the door from the inside. Alarm should go off and engine cannot be started because injectors are disabled. Insert your key and turn ignition on to disable the alarm.

Content Theft-Deterrent (If Equipped)
Your vehicle may be equipped with a content
theft-deterrent alarm system.
With this system, the
SECURITY light will
flash as you open the door
(if your ignition is off).
This light reminds you to activate the theft-deterrent
system. Here’s how to do it:
1. Lock the door with the power door lock switch
(door must be open) or with the remote keyless
entry transmitter (door can be open or closed).
The SECURITY light should come on and stay on.
2. Close all doors. The SECURITY light should go off
after approximately 30 seconds. The alarm is not
armed until the SECURITY light goes off.
If a door is opened without the key or the keyless entry
transmitter, the alarm will go off. Your vehicle’s headlamps
will flash and the horn will sound for 110 seconds, then will
turn off to save the battery power.
Remember, the theft-deterrent system won’t activate if
you lock the doors with a key or use the manual door
lock. It activates only if you use a power door lock
switch (with the door open), or with the keyless entry
transmitter (door can be open or closed). You should
also remember that you can start your vehicle with the
correct ignition key if the alarm has been set off
