Default URGENT!!!!! Will not shift into PARK

The shifter suddenly will not return to the PARK position. I can move freely through R-N-OD-D-2-1, but the shifter will not return to the P position.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Saw in another post that you're body lifted. Have you checked the linkage underneath for any obstructions?

There seems to be no obstructions on the linkage from the tranny to where it goes into the floor board.

Pop the tranny linkage at the trans, and hand shift through each one counting. if there all there and you put it in park that way then your cable is fouled or something. there is a pin inside the trans that can come loose too, not sure how likely it is but ive seen it happen. since you have no park you are of course going to want to block your wheels.

hope it helps!

Thanks I'll try it. I read another posting with some helpful info right here http://en.allexperts.com/q/Steering-...shift-park.htm

I found the problem. The linkage on the tranny was fine and dandy. There is a shift actuator on the column that tells the computer what gear the tranny is in producing the lighted indicator on the console. This actuator also prevents you from shifting into drive without pressing the brake. Well, The detent socket on mine got brittle and broke detaching it from the column. The actuator still works in the rest of the gears except PARK because the notch on the rod that goes through it pushed the whole actuator instead of just clicking the switch inside the actuator allowing the shifter to go into P.
