Default Water pump

Not only is the blazer a money pit but the damn after market parts aint much better. Two year old Bosch water pump leaking. Should last 100K. How many times do I need to fix the same thing?

I don't know about Bosch, but Autozone's duracrap isn't any better. At least they have a lifetime warranty. I've gotten a free water pump, two starters, and two or three alternators for my Chevelle over the years. The only reason I don't get better quality parts is the fact that on the Chevelle it takes all of 15 minutes to change them!

I'll probably be looking at another water pump in the next few years myself. I received an Autozone one last Christmas for the Blazer.

Sorry to badmouth Bosch. Ended up the engine mounts sagged and fan rubbed shroud. That caused the pump failure

How can you tell the mounts had sagged? I bought some mounts a while back but never got around to changing them.

Risen from the grave...

If in fact the fan blades had come in contact with the shroud like you say, didn't that cause a huge racket? And if it did, how come you never checked before it got to the point of failing the water pump?

I don't have a shroud at all on mine, and at one point I had some rigged up round tubing for the air intake. Sometimes it would droop down, and the fan blade would hit it, ever so slightly. I could hear it very well, even in the truck at idle.

Origonally I only had an upper shroud but the truck was having overheat problems on very hot days with AC on so I added the lower shroud. The engine mounts dont suddenly drop - must have been slightly touching over a long period. Anyway I didnt hear it and thats what happens. I did hear it once installing the new pump and shimmed the shroud. Eventually did the mounts too.
