Default what did i get myself into?

OK so a bit of info... passenger side front end of my 98 blazer 4x4 was making a whining sound maybe like a bearing. had a chevy tech look at it and he pointed out that the bearing being the cv was shot... got the parts and started ripping it apart lol.... i got it all apart destroying my upper and lower ball joints ( upper was going anyways) with my new handy dandy pickle fork. so now shes sitting all apart almost i still need to remove the axle housing? from the front diff and push the bearing out through the other side and replace with the new one... what my main question is.... how do i tell if the cv joint/ shaft is bad? i have it out may as well replace it if need be, also i need to know what the best fluid for the front diff is.

thanks for all the help,
josh

If the boots are ripped and the grease is coming out, then replace them. If they were clicking while turning then replace them.

I had some sound coming from over there. Think I'm just going to replace it as I have it out anyways. The boot was not ripped just very loose. Thanks for the reply.
