what is the life expectancy of a 96 blazer
i was looking into purchasing one it has around 175,000mileson it. its problems are that it runs hot due to water in the oil or somthing, the steering isprettyloose, it leaks oil pretty badbut i believe it is the oil pan gasket that is bad. but that is about all the major probs it has. but if i were to buy it what all would i expect to do to get it working good and about how much should i plan on spending. by the way id be getting it for a great price so dont worry about that.

If water is in oil pan then you will have to fix either the head gasket or a cracked block or head....
Get a compression check done on the cylinders it will indicate if there is a bad gasket...

with 175k, play in the steering (bad bushings, tie rods, sway bar links), oil leak, water in the oil (which may be bad head gasket or cracked block which was also stated above)...this guy should be payin u to take the truck from him. Its alot of work, and if ur not getting this truck for dirt cheap or free...i dont suggest buying it. Just to be on the safe side. The blazers are great trucks, but i dont know about taking a risk on this one.
but thats just my opinion

how much are they asking for it? I would question giving any more than 700 for it.

Well, I bought my 1995 blazer in 2000 and in 7 years of owning it, I have had to replace alot. Not all at once but over time things break.
If your good at fixing things (which you seem like you are) then go for it. if the price fits you and you know that your in for lots of work. do it.
I have never regreted purchasing my blazer. I am still trying to fix all my problems casue I can't find another ride I like , like my blazer.

well the person selling it is actually a very close family friend hes going to sell it to me for 1000, i know it has probs but i think the water in the oil is a intake gasket problem not a cracked block or anything like that, but i dont think its such a bad deal. i mean its a LT with leather, has the 4.3, all power, 4 wheel drive, borla dual exhaust, pretty new all terrain type tires, brand new brake pads all around, tinted windows, and its in pretty good shape all aroundBTW how many miles are the drivetrains supposed to last in these things

See if he would take it somewhere to diagnose the problems. Ifit has water in the oil, something got 'tow yup'. 1000 seems kinda high if it turns out to be a cracked block or head.
