Default Zr2 spare tire carrier fix

For the external carrier on a 2001 ZR2, can the hinge be undone and the carrier removed without cutting/drilling/grinding the hinge pins?
Mine is getting loose. I've added some notched washers for the up and down play but it seems it may need bushings for lateral play. If I can get it apart I may be able to use oversized hardened bolts. Don't see any way to get a wrench on it.

I took mine to a machine shop and had the carrier bored up to the next size bronze bushing and used all the original hardware. 150 bucks and better than new.

That is an excellent idea. The original plastic bushings in mine are shot and causing all sorts of rattling noise...

One step further would be to drill and tap the bushing bore for a grease fitting

Yeah, those expanded parts diagrams are super useful. Better than anything else I've found.

I looked at my spare tire carrier that I have yet to install and it has c-clips.

What material for the bushing would you recommend? Cast bronze? Oil-impregnated? Something else?

The machine shop used oil impregnated bronze. They also had to shave the lip of the bushing for the final fit.

Going for the "poor mans fix" Once I figure out how to get it apart. My thoughts are to drill it out if need be and bush it with copper pipe cut to fit. Use washers for up and down play and re pin it with a grade 8 hardened bolt with a nylock nut to hold it all together. Everything would be pre-greased and it all should out last me...I like home fixes
