[Chevy Blazer 99] Access other ECU than $10 / heater problem
 

Hi,

(sorry for my bad english ... I'm French)

The problem : the climate control doesn't work and I have only fresh air even if I turn the button to full warm.
I read docs where I found that I must read DTC from the HVAC system.
OK, but my ScanMaster tool get only the motor/main ECU noted $10.

So, does someone now how to connect the HVAC computer and read the DTC (to know wich sensor is off ... or any other trouble) ?

And, is it a way to shortcut the sensor to get allways some warm air (during this cold winter) ?

First thing you need to do is check the heater hoses in the engine bay. They should both be the same temperature to the touch. If one is cooler than the other, the heater core is clogged and that is causing your problem.

How to proceed to remove the dirt inside that cloggsthe system ?
(... And thé nearest chevy dealer is 400 km away, really impossible to get parts)

Cleaning out the heater core is easy, messy, but easy. BUT it can lead to the core leaking onto the floor as the corrosion inside could be due to a hole.

With the engine cold, remove the two hoses from the core. Coolant will spill out...have something under vehicle to catch it.

Hold a garden hose to one inlet at a time and gently put water into it. When you have water flowing out of the other tube that is clear, the core is flushed.

Be sure to check the floor inside for wetness. If the core is leaking, then the dash must be removed to replace the core. Not alot of fun, but can be done.
