00 Heater core replacement
 

I would rather cut my eyes out than do another heatercore removal

Hi, I read about this process and just had a coworker do the heater core in my 2000 Blazer LS. I guess he had a lot of trouble. It took about 13 hours and he had to take the whole dash out. I just got it back a couple hours ago and everything works. I paid $300 US labor and for the part also. I think I need to give the mechanic more money, he did a good job. I'm going to have the system flushed with one of those machines and put green coolant in. Anyway, this is the most expensive repair that I've had to do. Bought the Blazer used with warranty and the transmission went out on a long trip while under warranty, that would have cost $3000, but we didn't have to pay anything. I've got 125,000 miles on it and maybe it'll go for a few more years now. I need to do the front left door hinge pins again though. I see Napa has a replacement hinge kit now for the upper and lower left only, so it's a common problem. Has anyone tried these whole hinge replacement kits instead of just doing the pins and bushings?

If the holes in your hinges are damaged to the point your pins aren't lasting, there are over-sized pin and bushing kits. Cheaper and less work than replacing the entire hinge.

Hmm, is that through GM or aftermarket? I'm looking at these items from Dorman: 924-106 and 924-107 Upper and lower hinges for the Blazer. I guess you have to cut the old hinges off of the uni-body in order to install these. My hinges are so bad that they were really oblong 7 years ago when we did the pins and bushings.

I suspect it's the bushings that aren't lasting.

There was a thread here about them from a member with the same problem. A search of the forum will get it. I believe there were part numbers for them as well.

Replaced my pins and bushings with Dorman last year...still going strong...

Scroll down the page. If they're as bad as you say, you'll need the .020" oversize. Best to get 2 packs of each rather than get the door off and wish you did.
