Default 02 Blazer 4x4 HELP

I have a 2002 Chevy Blazer 4x4. I had the transmission replaced several years ago. About 2 weeks ago I noticed a piece of hose hanging from the bottom, and I took it to a mechanic. He said it was a vaccuum hose and there were actually 3 of them off but he (with a diagram) could only find where 2 of them went. The third he tied off on the bottom because he said everyone of them were on there and this went no where. Last night I noticed an electrical fire smell or maybe just something getting hot coming through the air vents. This was driving it for only 5 min from work. This morning I went to start it and there is a high pitch noise coming from under the hood that changes with accelerating. Does anyone know what this may be or what is causing this?

Do you have a 3-button or 4-button transfer case switch on the dash?

You didn't stop and look for the source of the smell??? Hopefully it wasn't something serious...

You really need to determine the source of the noise. You can determine if it is the belt or pulleys by removing the belt and starting the engine. If the noise goes away, you have a problem with belt system (belt, accessories, tensioner, and/or idler).

It is a 3 button.

I tried to determine but there is no smoke just the smell. I have raised the hood and crawled under it but the smell is actually so strong that I cant determine the source. It might seem weird but it just has me dumbfounded because it is like it is even throughout.

The noise does not; stop it gets faster with speed and just whines when idle.

So you removed the accessory drive belt and the noise didn't go away?

Yeah... but I figured it out... the smell was/is coming from the A/C compressor... in the process of checking the timing belt for possible frays however I discovered the tensioner was also ready to fall off... can fix the tensioner myself but the compressor will be done by a mechanic... thanks for the help though
