10 SES codes which lead to alot of repairs

Default 10 SES codes which lead to alot of repairs

We recently bought a new vehicle so I can now address all the issues with my 2000 Blazer LT. I took it to Oreilly Auto Parts to see why I've been getting the Service Engine Soon light. It showed 10 codes: P0102 twice, P0442 twice, C0222, C0223, C0221, C0281, C0225, and C0227. They gave me a list of possibilities and parts. I'm going to put the rig up on jack stands and start repairs. I'll be using alot of ideas that I find here. My cat converter has been rattling for quite a while but it's the heat shield. I'm tossed between replacing it or removing it and puting in a piece of pipe. I'm going to pull all the speakers and replace them. My driver side door panel is cracked and loose which I'll repair while doing the speakers. My steering is very sloppy so I'm going to replace the steering gear box, rag joint, and any other issues I find while doing it. The window is cracked below eye level but I'll have that done by a shop. In the process of all these repairs I'm hoping to discover why, when I start the car, the transmission jerks. In the winter when it's colder it sometimes won't go into Reverse until I put it back in Park and then into Reverse again. My lumbar adjustment isn't working so I'll dig into that too.The drivers side mirror doesn't adjust so it gets replaced too. I'm going to be busy.....

I guess it will keep you busy for a while.

For the Codes I would see to all the wiring from and to the engine sensors first. Then maybe address the TPS. About half the codes are related to that one.

Does the 2000 Blazer have an electronic gas pedal? (I wouldn't think so). Fun enought that it throws codes I only know from electronic throttle controls.

The C0281 is a funny one. Is this an 8 cylinder Blazer? The code refers to cyl. 7.

Piping out a CAT may be an infraction on where you live. Aside from that on the OBD II it may create more problems as you have an O2 sensor before and after the CAT.
IMHO not the way to go. Keep the CAT if it is intact, replace if broken.

If I were You, I'd start with the TC jerking/shifting troubleshooting. If that one gets solved, then it would be worth spending the time for such a minor fixes like speakers, glass etc. If it doesn't they just won't matter anymore...

Great advice.
I don't think the gas pedal is electronic.
It has a 6 cylinder engine.
While removing the Cat is not an infraction here your statement that it might create more issues is enough to make me replace it rather than remove it.

Good point. Maybe I'll get it into the tranny shop and at least find out what the problem is. Could be it's something simple.

P0102 is a MAF sensor issue. PO442 is small leak in the Evap System. C0221-227 are all ABS wheels sensor codes. C0281 is a code for TCC brake switch problem.

Get a decent scanner with enhanced GM Powertrain PIDs if you intend to work on your vehicle. I recommend the Android app for your phone "Car Gauge Pro" (about $9) and BAFX Bluetooth OBD2 adapter as sold on Amazon. About $35.00 total. Note this is not a TECH2, and it will not do all the things described in the factory service info. But it does the most on your Blazer that you can buy for under $350. It will read/clear ABS/SIR/BCM/4WD codes as well as the typical Powertrain Codes everyone deals with, and it has quite a few enhanced GM Powertrain PIDs and even some limited bidirectional controls. It is NOT intuitive or well-documented software, so be prepared for that. If you need better documentation or don't like the interface, then Dash Command will do the powertrain part only (but they charge $10 extra for enhanced PIDs for each vehicle). Torque Pro at $6 (best interface) is another option for Powertrain only, but they do not include the cam sensor retard PID used for the Blazers. I use all three apps with the same BAFX OBD2 adapter. If you have an iPhone, Dash command is really your only good choice for a Blazer.

Get a subscription to AlldataDIY.com for the factory service info on your vehicle. About $25.

Clear all codes and see what comes back as real. Others may have been set by someone trying to work on the vehicle and failing to clear codes. Is ABS light on? Caution, these codes are not indicators of bad parts - they only give you a starting point when using using the factory diagnostic charts to determine what the problem is.

As I understand it the jerk forward when you start it after sitting is not necessarily an indication of a trans problem. Then again, not all vehicles do this. Something about a piston having to fill up with fluid. Better to get Transman to answer about your trans. Try posting about your trans in the engine/trans section. He hangs out there.
