2000 Blazer 4WD heater case

I have a broken defroster/heater flap inside the heater case. I have read numerous posts stating that the entire dash has to be removed in order to replace it. My question is to those that have already replaced the flap or the heater core, can the heater case be separated without having to remove the entire dash? I've tried to find a decent exploded parts view of the heater case, including the back side with not much luck. I have found one of the front view. Any help/advice would greatly be appreciated.

Done countless heater cores on S&T bodies; You can remove the heater case by rolling the dash rearward BUT, for another 10 minutes work, you can have an unobstructed work space, (well worth the 10 minutes). The heater case must be removed in order to split it without breaking it. Once it's apart, check all of the doors, actuators, and vacuum lines.

its looking like i might have the same problem (im just discovering)
i was hoping it might be just that my linkage retainer clip had come off but the white piece wobbles and from what i have found on the net is that means its broken.

does someone have any more info on how to do this?
i have just started searching and actually found out its called the hvac case.

some diagrams or videos or step by step would be great.
i have a 1999 blazer ls (3 button 4x4) 4 door but it always seems i actually find info when i look for 2000 blazers

not trying to hijack a thread but why create a new one when this was a good one just to bad it didnt have any links to the actual procedure.
