2000 Blazer Driver door latch removal

I'm in the middle of removing the latch assy because the lock doesn't unlatch when I use the door lock unlock switch, There is no sound at the door when I use the unlock switch. I'm not sure how to proceed. I've got the door open and removed the trim and shield. Where is the door unlock relay located.
Is there a detailed removal procedure for the door latch assy. The Haynes manual is very general.
If I remove the 3 screws holding the latch, I'm worried I will not be able to reinstall the rods.

How did you make out on this? I have to do the exact same repair on my 95. My issue is that the door doesn't latch shut! Driving with the door swinging freely is a little tricky.. ;) It looks like the spring popped off on mine but likely it's worse than that as it has jammed before also....

I replaced mine, Had to remove the three torx screws on the side of the door and remove any linkages, you then can pull the lock soenoid and latch assembly out, it's a tight fit but can be done.

Thanks! Would you believe that part at my dealer was $390? Talk about criminals. I'm holding out for a parted door locally.

Thanks,
A.

Hi Andrew,
Just thought I'd let you know that my problem was an open power wire to the body computer. There were quite a few things that were not working. Everything is fine now that the dealer installed a new wire. Over $400.
Just one additional comment. When I was looking at removing the door latch I had to remove a window bracket that was loose. It used to make a noise when I opened the window. I believe it's the vertical bracket on the LH side of the driver door. I didn't replace it. I just try not and open it too much.
Have a good day.

door latch clasped shut

Good Morning,

I've read a bunch of threads stating that they had to replace their door latches, but aren't any of them been able to reset the latch in an open position?

Just a quick update and some commentary... I forgot to let you guys know that I pulled a latch for $40 from a yard (steep? - yep). I had the latch with the rods for the sliding lock which was a little different than mine so I had to swap my rods - no big deal.

The only problem I had was putting the LH window track back in at the top. Pay close attention to the tab as it clicks in only one way and can be a PITA to get right. It was easiest to bolt the top first after clicking it in (10mm bolts).

As for the 'reset of the latch' procedure... I have been able to do that several times in the past but the failed spring on mine made it impossible this time. For those wondering if unsure, hold the handle up from the outside while 'flicking' the latch forward with a key, pen, maybe a finger... Whatever.

Thanks for the responses and feedback guys.

I am having the same problem. My latch is stuck open, so I need to replace it. My problem is I cant seem to pull the rods out from the latch assembly. Any recmmendations on how to remove the rods?
