2000 chevy blazer rough idle

Hi im new to forum. More of a crackerjack mechanic then anything. I can follow instructions and look at pictures. I have a 2000 chevy blazer 4.3. When i first purchased it it sounded horrible. I changed the fuel filter and put some sea foam in gas tank. That make a huge difference but still not smooth so i changed the spark plug wires and plugs. Which was not easy even with my small hands. It sounded worse. So i rechecked the wires and plugs. They were good. My question is my distrubtor moves. Not much but a little. Is it suppose to move? Could that cause it to run worse

Have the same 2000 - 4.3. Replaced the dist. last year when rebuilding motor and no it should not move. Have you checked the hold down bolt on passenger side to see if it is tight? Is it moving up/down? The gear on the bottom of the dist. shaft meshes with the camshaft gear and if it's moving up/down it would not be good. Also make sure the dist cap is tight. With dist. moving and rough idle could be a timing issue causing rough idle. Do you have a CEL on now?

I see two screws.. But the go front to back not side to side. It twists.. Not alot but a little.

Check engine light on the dash.

You should scan the truck at the ODBII port and see if you have any codes.

My check engine light isnt on. I just bought this vehicle for a part truck for body parts for my old blazer but once i got it home decided it was worth trying to get running. Its running signifcantly better the when i got it. All i did was change fuel filter and put sea foam. Im still finding different things about it. First the heater core was bypassed with a shut off valve. I couldnt understand why it was still losing water. There ended up being a crack in the return hose. When i start blazer the cel doesnt flash with rest of dash lights. I know my temperture gage doesnt work but the rest of my gauges work. The dash had been taken apart and never put bk in correctly. I checked the fuses they are all fine. If i dont have a check engine light can i still scan amd recieve error messages? My dad has one i can borrow.

You can have legacy codes stored in the computer without the CEL being illuminated.

Ok good to know. I will borrow reader from my dad asap. Im currently trying to remove distrubtor cap. Someone must have removed it b4 because it does not have the t15 screws. It has a phillips on most assessible side. Whoever did it definitely drilled it in and rounded it somewhat. I can get at it with a flat head but need to know which direction to turn it b4 put to much force going the wrong way. I climb in or on engine however you want to say it facing the windshield. I known righty tighty whatever but ive learned that doesnt always apply. Does it loosen to left or towards windshield or right towards the engine.

Please have patience with me and understand im a girl. I know my questions may seem stupid. Im asssuming majority of people on mechanics forum are guys. Im hoping some are men who dont mind helping a woman out.

Thank you in advance for any time taken to help me get things figured out

We have some girl power on this forum, but even the old grouchy guys will help you get your truck going. LOL.

There are no stupid questions so fire away. The only time I see an OP get in trouble here is if they ask for help and then don't any of the things suggested.

Thank you currently im stuck on screw for distrubtor cap. Whoever worked on it b4 me must have lost the torque screws and replaced them with phillips. But they drilled the hell out of one closest to the engine and rounded it out. i cant get a grip in it with anything to turn it. Idk what to do. I have one of my nail files and have been trying to file it to where i can grip it. But that is slow going. There has to be a better way
